The barn at Heron Corn Mill is being re-developed into an arts, education and community facility, offering an ongoing programme of workshops, activities and events organised by Heron Corn Mill staff. The space will also be available for community led activities and events and can be hired as a facility for all kinds of uses such as talks, meetings, parties or rehearsal space with a range of relevant equipment. The barn will also contain a specially commissioned artwork by Nick Crowe built into the floor, providing heat for the building and a visual representation of the facilities benefit from green energy.

Architectural design for the barn has been completed by Simpson & Brown Architects with building work being undertaken by Duckett Building Services and CDM by Communication Point Ltd. Re-development of the barn development starts in early Spring with completion in August and has been funded by The Northern Rock Foundation and the Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency.
