National Mills Weekend: The Medieval Flax Mill
Sunday 12th May (1.30pm – 4.00pm)
Over the next 18 months Heron Corn Mill will celebrate our medieval origins with a variety of workshops and special events as part of the ‘1220 – 2020: 800 Years of Milling’ project!
This National Mills Weekend textile artist Stella Adams-Schofield will lead a workshop all about ‘breaking’ and ‘beetling’, the process used in a medieval flax mill where water-driven pounding mallets were used to both ‘break’ the flax plant and ‘beetle’ the linen cloth. There’ll also be the opportunity to have a go at hand-beetling some linen cloth yourself!
This workshop is open to the general public and will run in conjunction with both of our Mill Hoppers clubs.
