1220-2020: 800 Years of Milling

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Heritage Lottery grant of £52,500 for an exciting new heritage project, 1220-2020 (800 Years of Milling), which will focus on the medieval origins of Heron Corn Mill and celebrates the milling history at the site dating back to 1220. There have been a variety of different mills in the area, with flax, grain and paper all having been milled on the site at some point over the last 800 years, and we will explore this rich history over the course of this 20 month programme of events and activities.

The project will bring together the Mill Hoppers, the Crafternoons group, the community baking  groups and the sewing groups already established at the mill to explore the sites medieval past, through growing and processing flax, baking bread and using Minecraft. The project will also encourage visitors to get involved, as they are invited to bake medieval-style with the Bread of Heron group, and grow flax which will be used to create linen with textile artist Stella Adams-Schofield.
