Near Far Heron: Preserving the Pulse of the North West

What is Near Far Heron?

Supported by a generous grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Near Far Heron is a three-year specialist training and restoration initiative. While its heart is right here at our 18th-century mill in Beetham its impact stretches across the watermills of the North West.

The project addresses a critical "at-risk" skill: Millwrighting. By training the next generation of millwrights, we are protecting the technical DNA of our industrial landscape.

Join the Journey

Whether it’s through the stories we share on our blog below, our community events, or simply watching the waterwheel turn during a tour, Near Far Heron is a celebration of local ingenuity and regional connection.

Come and see heritage with its sleeves rolled up.
