At Heron Corn Mill, we believe that heritage isn’t just about looking at the past—it’s about keeping it in motion. Through our flagship project, Near Far Heron, we are ensuring that the rhythmic clatter of water-powered machinery continues to echo across our region for generations to come.
Supported by a generous grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Near Far Heron is a three-year specialist training and restoration initiative. While its heart is right here at our 18th-century mill in Beetham its impact stretches across the watermills of the North West.
The project addresses a critical "at-risk" skill: Millwrighting. By training the next generation of millwrights, we are protecting the technical DNA of our industrial landscape.
