Primary School Activities

As part of our education programme we offer two separate workshops to schools which are designed to complement Key Stages 1 & 2 of the National Curriculum!

FORCES: GEARS AND PULLEYS

In our Gears and Pulleys workshop we focus on how forces are used to make things move, speed up and slow down. The children will take a tour with Stuart the miller and discover how gears, levers and pulleys work as simple machines which help us run our working mill.

A workshop with STEM Bright Sparks Consultant Fran Ward is offered as an extra. The workshop serves as an introduction to simple machines, and explores the many uses of gears, levers and pulleys.

FORCES: HYDRO ELECTRICITY

In our Hydro Electricity session we explore how water is used to make energy. From the 14ft waterwheel that helps power our mill to the Kaplan turbine that we use to create electricity, all will be explained during a tour will our resident miller Stuart.

A workshop with STEM Bright Sparks Consultant Fran Ward is offered as an extra. The workshop splits the children into teams, and sees them asked to construct a simple water wheel, and associate how electricity is made by working with circuit boards.

Both workshops are held in the Barn and run from 10am – 2pm.

Cost: £5 per pupil per workshop

Please call for STEM workshop cost and availability.

Worksheets and other education resources are available for teacher led workshops.
